Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Vance Vaults Toros to 1-0 Victory Over CS San Bernardino

CARSON -- Redshirt freshman #Britney Vance# scored her second game-winning goal in three games after collecting her own missed shot and finding the back of the net to give Cal State Dominguez Hills its first CCAA Conference win of the year in a 1-0 victory over a game Cal State San Bernardino squad.

The Toros came out strong after a lackluster performance to open CCAA play three days ago, firing 10 shots to CSUSB's 2 in the first frame.  The game was tied at zeros until the 42nd minute when CSUDH's offensive pressure paid dividends.

After #Jessica Murphy# sent a cross to Vance from the right side, Vance sent her blast off the hands and chest of Coyote keeper Laura Lyons.  Quickly regrouping, Vance collected her own missed shot and sent home the sitter from a foot away to give the Toros a 1-0 lead at 42:21.

CSUSB, which fell to 1-4, 0-1 CCAA, limited the Toros to just six shots after the break, but was only able to fire off one of its own as the CSUDH defense held firm.

Lyons finished with 8 saves while counterpart #Alyssa Congdon# repelled 2 in picking up her second shutout of the year.

The Toros enjoyed a 5-3 corner kick advantage as the two teams combined for 21 fouls and two cautions.

Commemorating 9/11, the Toros welcomed Captain Rory Brunner and his crew from Fire Station #116, right across the street on Victoria Boulevard, as part of a Heroes Tribute during halftime.

The Toros, now 2-3, 1-1 CCAA, look for consecutive wins as they host Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday, with first kick set for 3:000 pm. The match will be televised live on the Toro Sports Network at www.GoToros.com/live.
