Stagnant Hitting Lands Toros 3-0 Loss to the University of Alaska-Fairbanks

CARSON -- The Toros closed out the '09 SoCal Classic with a tough loss to the Nanooks of Alaska-Fairbanks to drop them to a 0-3 record on the season. All was not lost as Rebekah Wolfgramm showed true talent from the line with seven total aces, two of them back-to-back.

The Toros quickly fell behind in game one but Wolfgramm would use back-to-back aces to bring them to within two at 14-12 before the Toros succumbed 25-17.

Game two once again saw the Toros fall behind early before the eventual 25-17 loss. However, CSUDH improved in its attacking over the set, gaining one more for a total of eight with Ashley Clark landing three of her own.

After the ten-minute break, the Toros brought more intensity in game three, keeping it close down 11-9 until the Nanooks picked up steam.

A block assist in the end by Heather Rushton and Samantha Maxwell with the Nanooks up 24-18, the Toros' only block in the game, would be their second-to-last point before UAF grabbed the game 25-19, and the match 3-0.

Overall, Wolfgramm was deadly from with line with seven aces. Clark came out as the overall kill leader for CSUDH with six.

Now with a 0-3 record, the Toros will continue play next week at the Triton Classic hosted by UC San Diego. First serve is September 4, 2009 at 12:30pm against Northern Michigan University.
