Farfan Dominant From Both the Plate and Mound as Toros Win All Three Games on Day One of Tournament of Champions

vs. WWU  |  vs. WOU  |  vs. SMU

Turlock, CA -- Senior pitcher Regina Farfan remained the driving force of the Toros as she led them to a 2-0 win over Western Washington, a 6-2 victory over Western Oregon and a 9-1 decision over St. Martin's on day one of the Tournament of Champions, hosted by Cal State Stanislaus.

From the mound, Farfan posted a 0.86 ERA in her 16.1 innings of duty as she fanned eight of her 61 batters while only scattering 10 hits. She was just as impressive from the plate in going 3-for-8 with a double and three RBI on the day.

Liz Vazquez was most deadly from the plate with a .667 average, going 6-of-9 with a double of her own and three RBI in clutch moments.

Stopping everything that went her way, Khryssi Steele was a wall at third base with 10 assists and three putouts for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. Steele would also belt a double to bring in an RBI for the Toros.

In game one vs. Western Washington University, Farfan scattered just three hits and fanned three, while helping herself at the plate with a 2-for-3, 1 RBI effort to give the Toros a 2-0 win to open the TOC.

After a Vazquez two-out double put the Toros in scoring position, Farfan did the honors with a single up the middle for a 1-0 lead, adding an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a Jessica Marlow double and two Viking errors in the frame.

In game two vs. the Wolves, Vazquez again gave CSUDH the offensive edge with a 2-of-4 effort, including a single that sent two Toros home to tie the game at 2-2. Farfan's double in the third frame would give the Toros the final lead they would need at 4-2 before taking the 6-2 win.

Game three was the shortest on the day as the Toros shut down the Saints of St. Martin's University in five frames behind a team total four doubles, including three in the first, to give CSUDH the immediate 3-0 lead.

Five more runs in the fourth further showcased their potent offense and easily knotted a 9-1 mercy run rule win to improve their record to a perfect 3-0 at the tournament. Wendy Espindola saw action in relief for Farfan, fanning three batters of her own on the way to her second win of the season.

Now with a 26-13 record, the Toros will continue action in the tournament tomororw as they face off against Central Washington (9:00am) and Northwest Nazarene (1:45pm) to close out pool play.  Stay tuned to www.GoToros.com for live stats and updates of each game.
