Toros Continue to Roll in 2-0 & 6-2 Sweep Over CS San Marcos

Carson, CA -- The suddenly red-hot Toros took another pair of non-conference games this afternoon against visiting Cal State San Marcos, winning 2-0 and 6-2 to improve to 14-8 on the year.  Reigning CCAA Pitcher of the Week Kaci Carroll tallied both a win and a save as CSUDH belted two home runs in the nightcap for the decisive win, its seventh-straight.

It was a pitcher's duel heading into the bottom of the fifth in the opener when an Amber Angel single started the would-be rally.  After pinch-runner Allycia Muir entered, consecutive singles by Regina Farfan and Jessica Marlow drove home Muir, after which a Cougar fielding error on a would-be 1-2-3 double play to end the inning brought home the second and final run of the game.

That was more than enough for Carroll, who allowed just one hit while fanning two in picking up her fifth win of the season (5-2).

It was all CSUDH in the nightcap as the Toros put up three in the first, the big blow coming on an Angel home run to left field with one on.  After tacking on a single run in the third on a McEwen big fly but giving CSUSM hope with two runs in their fourth inning at-bat, the Toros put the game away in their fourth inning with two more, courtesy of a Katie Garcia bases loaded walk and a McEwen sacrifice fly to end the scoring.

Farfan tossed 4.0 innings of three-hit ball without allowing an earned run to improve to 8-5 on the year, while Carroll pitched the final three innings for her second save of the season.

CSUDH, now 14-8, resumes CCAA Conference action next weekend as it travels to Arcata to battle the 2008 NCAA D-II National Champion Humboldt State Lumberjacks.
