Softball Puts Hurt on Concordia (CA) in 4-2 and 9-2 Wins

Game 1  Game 2

Carson, CA -- Senior hurler Regina Farfan collected two wins against visiting Concordia (CA) this afternoon on Toro Diamond, as two hits apiece by Katie Garcia and Emiley McEwen paced the Toro offense in improving CSUDH to 12-8 overall.

The Toros jumped to a 3-1 lead in the first after McEwen doubled home Garcia, who began the inning by drawing a walk on a 3-2 pitch.  After a Liz Vazquez sacrifice fly brought home the second run of the inning, an Amber Angel sacrifice fly made it a three-run inning, giving the Toros the lead for good.

That would be all starter Farfan would need after scattering five hits on 60 total pitches to pick up the win, as the offensively efficient Toros collected four runs on four hits, including a Jessica Marlow big fly for an insurance run in the fifth inning.

CSUDH continued its offensive momentum in the nightcap, staking Farfan to a 9-0 lead after three, courtesy of two four-run innings in both the first and third frames.

The Toros sent eight batters to the plate in the first, using five singles, two Eagle wild pitches and a hit batter for their scores.

After adding a single run in the second inning, CSUDH again put up a four-spot, with CUI's defense aiding with four errors in the frame, providing no support for Eagle reliever Jennifer Simons.

Concordia finally got on the board in the top of the fifth with four hits including an RBI double from Isabel Chavez and an RBI single from Tiana King, and looked to get back into the game by loading the bases, but reliever Kaci Carroll, who was named the CCAA Pitcher of the Week last week, induced Alicia Lucatero to pop up her 2-2 offering to leave the bases full and CSUDH with a comfortable 9-2 lead.

CSUDH, now 12-8, continues non-conference action tomorrow as Cal State San Marcos visits Toro Diamond, with first pitch of the double-header set for 12 noon.
