Marlow's Walk-Off Slam Closes Door on Sonoma State, 9-0

Carson, CA -- Junior Jessica Marlow picked an opportune time to connect for her first home run of 2009, taking a 1-0 offering from Brittany Williams in the bottom of the sixth and sending it over the left center field fence for a walk-off grand slam in CSUDH's 9-0 rout over visiting Sonoma State, pushing the Toros to 4-5, 2-1 CCAA.

It took just four pitches for the Toros to stake CSUDH starter Regina Farfan with a 3-0 lead as a Katie Garcia single to center on a 1-0 count and a Liz Vazquez single to right field set the stage for Emiley McEwen, who followed Vazquez's lead by hammering the first pitch she saw over the left center field wall for a 3-0 lead off SSU starter Brittany Reynolds.

That was more than enough for Farfan, who scattered 6 hits and fanned 3 in picking up her third win of the season (3-2).

After tacking on a run in the 5th on an Amber Angel RBI single to left, the flood gates opened one inning later as a Seawolf defensive lapse with two out set the stage for Marlow's dramatics.

After Williams retired the first two Toros in the 6th, a fielding error by the SSU shortstop allowed Vazquez to reach base, which was followed by a McEwen single and a Farfan RBI baseknock.  Angel then drew a walk on four pitches, after which Marlow ended the game with her blast over the left center field fence, a no doubter.

McEwen continued her torrid hitting with a 2-3 performance, with Vazquez also tallying two hits in the win.

The two teams hook up for the series finale tomorrow morning, with first pitch of the single game set for 10:00 am at Toro Diamond.
