SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -- Looking to notch its first win of the 2009-10 campaign, Cal State Dominguez Hills ran into a 15-4 free throw disadvantage tonight at The Master's College, and the result was a 51-43 loss Bross Gym on the Mustang campus.  Junior Zareh Zargaryan led the Toros with 9 points and 6 rebounds in the loss.

Sophomore Robert Willhite got the Toros off to a good start, as a lay-up and triple gave CSUDH a 5-3 lead early.  Consecutive buckets by Danny Benson on the Toros' next two possessions built the lead to 9-3, before the hosts ran off seven-consecutive points to take a 10-9 lead with just over nine minutes left in the first half, before taking a 21-19 lead entering the break.

The Mustangs built their lead to 30-21 over the first three minutes of the second half before tallying their first of five 10-point lead of the night at 37-27 with 11:05 left in the game CSUDH used buckets by Zargaryan, Tim McLaurin and Benson to keep the lead in single digits, before a triple by John Staats with 4:00 left started a 6-0 run to cut CSUDH's deficit to 47-43 with just 2:32 left in the game.

TMC, however, benefited from 5 missed CSUDH shots down the stretch and their accuracy at the line, sinking its final four free throws in the 51-43 win.

In addition to Zargaryan's effort, Staats chipped in 9 points with Benson contributing 8.  But the Mustangs got a game-high 21 points by Raphael Harris and 14 by Joey Fuca en route to a team effort of 33.3% from the field, trumping CSUDH's 30.9% shooting night.

CSUDH, which dropped its first five games for the first time since 2004-05 when it opened with six-straight losses, looks to avenge an earlier season defeat on Saturday as Dixie State visits the Torodome for a 5:00 pm first tip.
