Alvarez Named CCAA Men's Soccer Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Senior striker BRian Alvarez was named the Wilson/CCAA Player of the Week for the week of October 12-18, scoring three goals in two Toro wins over UC San Diego and Cal State East Bay. This is Alvarez's first POW honor.

The Los Angeles native began his week by tallying what looked like an insurance goal against the Tritons on Friday after CSUDH took a 1-0 lead, only to have his goal prove key as UCSD rallied with two goals in the game's final minutes in the Toro 3-2 win.

Two days later as Alvarez and seven other seniors were honored on “Senior Day,” he scored the first and third of four total scores in the 4-1 win over the Pioneers.

Even more remarkable than his 3 goals over the weekend accounting for 42.9% of the team's goals is that Alvarez's scores came on just 9 shots (33.3%), with 7 of the 9 attempts (77.8%) coming on goal.

The Toros, riding a 4-game win streak, host Western Washington tomorrow and 22nd-ranked Seattle Pacific to close out their regular season home schedule.
