Freshman Chanel Parker Posts Provisional Mark in 55 Meter Hurdles Victory to Lead CSUDH at Fresno State Invite

Fresno, CA -- Freshman Chanel Parker made the first race of her collegiate career a memorable one, taking a 1st-place finish and setting a provisional mark in the 55 meter hurdles in a time of 8.26 to pace CSUDH in its first meet to kick off the 2009 Indoor Track and Field Season at today's Run for the Dream 09, hosted by Fresno State.

Left in Parker's wake, which was .18 off an automatic qualifying time, were Vanessa Sautebin and Latrisha Jordan of the host Bulldogs, along with Tenise Brewer and Natalie Roy from Cal Poly, and Tanyshia Ridley from fellow-CCAA school Cal State L.A.

Other top ten finishes for the Toros this afternoon were Lauren Rickman in the 55 meter dash (7th, 7.33), Dora Baldwin in the 800 meter race (7th, 2:29.30), Teriana Loftin in the shot put (7th, 30' 3.75"), and the 4x160 relay team (3rd, 76.90 - Gillett, Tyler, Rickman, Baldwin).

Other CSUDH results are:

55m - Destiny Tyler (12th, 7.58)
1 mile - Ines Mendoza (10th, 5:57.50), Nidia Padilla (11th, 5:58.44)

The Toros next take to Northern Arizona University on January 31, to compete in the Mountain T's Invitational, the second of three indoor meets before the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 13-14, at the University of Houston.
