Arcata, CA -- After two games of fearless softball from a team comprised of mostly freshmen and sophomores, the suddenly NCAA postseason-tested Toros played with their nerves on their sleeves, and the result was a disappointing 7-0 loss to a streaking and hot-hitting Western Oregon club, sending CSUDH to tomorrow's 11:00 am elimination contest against the winner of the Humboldt State / Cal State San Bernardino match-up, which immediately follows CSUDH's game.

Western Oregon, on the other hand, will need just one more win to advance to its first-ever Softball World Series when it faces the survivor of CSUDH/HSU/CSUSB trio tomorrow at 1:30 pm, with either of the three needing to defeat the Wolves twice in order to advance.

Wolves starter Katie Fleer was on from the start, fanning the last two Toros she faced for the final two outs of her 1-2-3 first inning.

WOU, on the other hand, used a Kristin Maglasang one-out single and stolen base, a Jessica Hallmark single and Trina Dorn fielder's choice to load the bases in their first inning at-bat off CSUDH starter Regina Farfan, allowing an Amanda Fleer ground out to plate the game's first run.

Following a walk, Farfan uncorked a wild pitch to bring home the Wolves' second run, before Krysta Pennington roped a double to right just out of a diving Katie Garcia's reach to bring home the final two runs of the inning for a 4-0 lead.

A one-out double by the WOU's Tyler Sutherland in the 2nd prompted a pitching change, and Kristin Tanaka delivered initially by inducing a fly out, but a Hallmark double to left center and Dorn single plated two more runs, spotting the Wolves a 6-0 cushion after two.

The Wolves continued their assault in the third as Whitney Lee clubbed a 1-1 pitch over the right field fence for a 7-0 lead.

Fleer grew stronger as the game progressed, consistently painting the corners en route to scattering four hits and fanning 11 Toros on the day.  She was helped by her defense, including an all-out dive by Hallmark in center field on a sinking liner off the bat of Liz Vazquez that would've put runners on second and third with two out in the 6th.

Jodi Nakawatase, Garcia, Jennifer Frazier and Christine Bathauer each collected a hit in the game to account for the Toros' offense, while Hallmark and Sutherland had two hits apiece, with Pennington driving in two runs.

Farfan was saddled with the loss in dropping to 17-10, while freshman Kaci Carroll (pictured) shut down the Wolves for the final three innings, not allowing a hit while fanning one.

The Toros, now 30-24, get a chance to regroup for tomorrow's 11:00 am elimination game, but will have to win three games in two days to advance to the first World Series in the program's history.
