Toros Again Earn Split in Late Game Win at CS Monterey Bay

Game 1    Game 2

Seaside, CA -- The Toros got just four hits in the nightcap at host Cal State Monterey Bay this afternoon, but those four hits resulted in four runs as CSUDH took a 4-2 win after dropping the opener, 3-2.  With the win, CSUDH moves to 23-22, 12-14 CCAA.  Freshman Kristin Tanaka scattered just five hits in improving to 7-4 on the year.

After falling behind 2-1 entering the 4th in the late game, the Toros got one key double by Katie Garcia and good luck to take the lead for good.  Loading the bases with two out, a fielder's choice grounder to the Otter shortstop went awry, resulting in two unearned runs to score.

Tanaka did the rest, retiring the next seven batters and 12 of the final 15 batters, allowing just one hit in the win, while Jodi Nakawatase added an RBI double in the 7th for an insurance run.

In the opener, the Toros tied the game at 1-1 in the 2nd as Jessica Marlow slapped a single through the left side, and took a 2-1 lead in the 4th after Khryssi Steele reached on a fielder's choice.

The Otters, however, responded with single runs in the 4th and 5th to take the lead for good, again taking the opening game of the two-game afternoon.

Farfan allowed seven hits and all three runs for the Toros in falling to 12-9 on the year, as she and Nakawatase delivered two hits apiece.

The Toros travel to La Jolla on Friday, April 18, in a make-up doubleheader against UC San Diego before concluding the regular season the weekend of April 25-26, in Sonoma State.
