Game 1 Game 2
Seaside, CA -- The Toros offense came alive just in time to salvage a split at host Cal State Monterey Bay, taking a 4-2 nightcap win after being 1-hit in an 8-0 loss to open the afternoon. With the split, CSUDH moves to 22-21, 11-13 CCAA.
CSUDH struck early in game two, using 5 hits to plate 3 runs in the first inning. In the frame, after Jodi Nakawatase and Liz Vazquez singled to open the game and moved to 3rd and 2nd after some aggressive base-running, Jennifer Frazier delivered with a 2RBI single to right center for the quick 2-0 lead. After a Kristin Tanaka single moved Frazier over to 2B, Katie Garcia brought her home with a double to right center to close the first inning scoring.
The Otters replied with single runs in the 2nd and 5th before CSUDH added one more in the 6th as Jessica Marlow (pictured) slugged the first home run of her Toro career, a solo shot to right center.
Tanaka got the win (6-4) by scattering 8 hits, fanning 3 and walking just one, and was aided by six CSUDH hits, led by Frazier's 1-2 outing and 2 RBI.
In the opener, it was all Cal State Monterey Bay as the hosts scored 4 times in the 3rd, 1 in the 4th and 3 in the 5th to end the game via the run rule.
Toro starter #Regina Farfan# lasted just 3.0 innings, allowing 8 hits and 4 runs to take the loss (12-8) as Garcia was the lone Toro to generate any offense off Otter starter Angela Cabral.
Former Toro Homa Shafii had a big game against her former teammates, enjoying a 3-for-3 outing, with 3 RBI, with teammate Ashlee Trotter also banging out 3 hits in CSUMB's game one win.
The two teams hook up again tomorrow afternoon, with first pitch of the twinbill set for 12 noon in Seaside, CA.
