Toros Emerge as Best Amongst Today's "West" in Picking Up Two Wins

Jennifer Frazier went 5-for-9 as the Toros swept Western Washington and Western Oregon this morning

vs. WWU    vs. WOU

Turlock, CA – Led by Regina Farfan's pitching and Jennifer Frazier's hitting, Cal State Dominguez Hills came alive on both sides of the ball in sweeping Western Washington, 7-0, and Western Oregon, 9-2, on day two of the Tournament of Champions, hosted by Cal State Stanislaus.  Farfan allowed just 7 hits and 2 runs on the day while Frazier enjoyed a 5-for-9 effort as the Toros scored 16 runs and belted 25 hits in the wins.

The Toros jumped on Western Washington for two big innings in the opener, tagging Viking starter Sarah McEnroe for all seven runs.  A Katie Garcia sacrifice fly and Katie Jordan 2RBI double in the 2nd inning produced the frame's three runs, while CSUDH received RBI singles from Jordan and Frazier and benefited from two WWU errors for 4 runs in the 4th, putting the game out of reach.

That was plenty for Farfan, who limited WWU to just two hits as just two Viking batters made it as far as second base all day.  The junior tossed 41 strikes in just 67 total pitches as the game lasted an efficient 1 hour and 39 minutes.

Game two against the Wolves nearly was a carbon copy of the early game as CSUDH put together two big innings to put the game away early.

After spotting WOU a run in the 2nd, the Toros put up three in the 3rd as Frazier and Farfan both garnered RBI singles, with the third run crossing the plate on a WOU error.

With the score 3-1 heading into the 5th, 10 Toro batters accounted for 7 hits and 5 runs in the inning, with Christine Bathauer's 2RBI bases loaded single started the run parade as her shot tipped off the center fielder's glove against the wall, barely missing a grand slam.

WOU answered with a single run in the 6th before CSUDH replied with one in the 7th to account for the game's final score in the 9-2 romp.

In addition to Frazier's 5-for-9 morning, Jodi Nakawatase went 4-for-9 with 3 runs scored while Jordan tallied a 3-for-6 day with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored as the Toros improved to 19-15 overall.

Farfan, meanwhile, picked up her 3rd win in two days with two stellar performances.

The Toros will wait until the rest of the day's action is complete before tomorrow's opponent is determined on the final day of the three-day tournament.
