CSUDH Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Sends Spirits Soaring at Harbor UCLA Visit

The morning session, including volleyball, softball, men's basketball, track and field and baseball
Torrance, CA -- The holidays came early for nearly 30 children at the Harbor UCLA Medical Center last Friday, as 38 CSUDH student-athletes brought gifts, well-wishes and fun during their annual visit comprised this year of both morning and afternoon sessions, spearheaded by the Toro Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Led by SAAC President Ashley Clark and Secretary Katie Garcia, who attended both sessions, a group of 18 student-athletes made their rounds to the hospital's 6th floor bringing presents, as well as company, conversations and holiday cheer.

Baseball's Andrew Baslow, who took over "Toro" duties this year, provided much of the humor through animated antics that received as many chuckles from the hospital staff as well as from the children themselves.

In the afternoon session, a collection of 20 student-athletes initiated arts and crafts sessions for the children, with a number of them bringing their ideas to those who were bed-ridden, while the others created holiday decorations in the hospital's playroom, before placing them in the rooms before the visit ended.

"I was really proud of SAAC bringing so many athletes from their teams to support us at the hospital," begins Clark.  "Visiting was a great experience because of not only being able to spend time with the kids, but also because it helped us remember that we can all do something to help and bring happiness to those who need it most, which is the most important point of this holiday season."
