Toros Keep Otters At Bay 3-1 For Second CCAA Win

Marissa Anderson led the Toros on the night with an outstanding 14 kills

Carson, CA --- Never giving the Otters of visiting Cal State Monterey Bay sufficient room, the Toros were able to easily grab their second CCAA win 3-1 with set scores of 25-23, 17-25, 25-22, 25-17. Marissa Anderson played a fierce match with a total of 14 kills and 2 blocks to lead the Toros in offense. Close behind her was Madison Horsley with 13 kills on the night.

Kepping a constant lead throughout set one, the Toros created a turning point in the game with a mid-set four-point streak off the service of Heather Rushton. The Toros were able to break down the Otters offense to force them to make multiple attack errors as they advanced their lead to 21-15. CSUMB responded bringing the game close to 23-21, but CSUDH's Anderson and Rushton had other plans as they ended the set on a block assist at 25-23.

The Toros made an effort to keep set two close, however CSUMB's Rayna Richardson - who had 11 kills on the night - responded to give the Otters a lead they would hold for the rest of the set at 10-7. Additional Otter errors brought the set close as CSUDH was able to come from behind to 16-14, however their efforts were not enough as the Otters took the set at 25-17.

Renewing the momentum in set three the Toros grabbed a quick lead and rode it all the way to 20-12 thanks to well-placed kills from Horsley and Anderson. CSUMB provided pressure to bring the game close to 22-20 as a Ashley Clark and Kayla Huckabee block followed by a Rushton ace closed out the set at 25-22.

The Toros rode the same momentum into the fourth and final set as they came from a one-point lead at 11-10 to 19-11, giving the Otters their only point on a service error. The Toros again refused to give the Otters any room as Clark quickly ended the set at 25-17 with a service ace.

The Toros were led on the night by Anderson with 14 kills and 2 blocks. Horsley contributed with an additional 13 kills and 6 digs. Melissa Velasco handled the defense with 18 digs on the night. Rebekah Wolfgramm gave an amazing 22 assists to lead the Toros.

Now 3-22 (2-15 CCAA) the Toros will host San Francisco State tomorrow night, first serve is set at 7:00pm.
