Visiting and 13th-Ranked Tritons Shut Out Toros Volleyball 3-0

Heather Rushton recorded 7 kills and her first career solo block to lead the Toros

Carson, CA --- Again playing with much energy against a nationally ranked team, the No. 13 Tritons of UC San Diego, the Toros were unsuccessfull in their quest for their first CCAA win as they fell in three, 25-15, 25-21, 25-18. Standing out among the Toros tonight was Heather Rushton who recorded 7 kills for a .438 attack percentage.

Though quickly taking a 9-1 deficit in set one, a Marissa Anderson kill put one on the board for the the Toros and seemed to change the pace of the game. Thanks to two consecutive service aces from the hands of Hilary Hougardy, CSUDH was able to bring the game around to only a four-point deficit at 13-9. However attack errors plagued the Toros and two final Triton kills from Hillary Williamson and Rebecca Bailey secured the game at 25-15.

The Toros were able to change their game in set two as a kill from Rushton gave them the start of a lead and quickly brought them to 11-8. The Toros were able to hold their lead with a final kill from Ashley Clark. A ball handling error put favor back to the Tritons as they brought the game in their favor to 16-15. A final kill from Madison Horsley was not enough as UCSD snatched the set at 25-21.

Not finding their rhythm in set three saw the Toros fall back to 3-8 as the Triton's Williamson recorded 2 of her 13 kills. After a refreshing timeout the Toros were able to gain some ground as they came back to 10-14 after a Clark ace. With the Toros down 15-23, CSUDH pulled out four consecutive points, but it was not enough as the Tritons secured the set and game at 25-18.

The Toros were led offensively on the night by Rushton with 7 kills as she also recorded her first solo block of the season. Assisting was Rebekah Wolfgramm who recorded 18 more sets. Leading defensively was Melissa Velasco with 16 digs.

Dropping to 1-19, 0-12 CCAA, the Toros will get a much needed break before they host Sonoma State on Friday, October 24th. First serve is set at 7pm.
