Toros Softball Finds Offense in Shutout Wins Over Notre Dame de Namur, Cal State Monterey Bay

Day Two complete at "Best of the West Tournament"

Turlock, CA -- After scoring just two runs in splitting a pair of games yesterday, Cal State Dominguez Hills exploded for 14 runs in two games as the Toros swept past Notre Dame de Namur, 6-0, in the early game, and then took a 5-inning 8-0 win over Cal State Monterey Bay in the nightcap to improve to 3-1 on the year.

A pair of Jennifers was the story in the opener as hurler Jennifer Martinez limited the Argonauts to just four hits, one day after Humboldt State touched her for nine runs, while Jennifer Frazier enjoyed a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, driving in two of the Toros' six. After taking a 1-0 lead in the 3rd, the Toros exploded for four in the 4th, the big blow courtesy of two RBI singles, a sacrifice fly and a NDDN throwing error.

Martinez did the rest as she fanned eight batters against no walks to imrprove to 2-1 on the year.

In the late game against CSUMB, it was a pair of Martinezes that did the damage as Jennifer Martinez fared even better against the Otters in tossing a 1-hitter, while senior Araceli Martinez led four Toros who boasted two hits on the evening, driving in three of CSUDH's eight runs. After three Otter errors contributed to CSUDH's 3-run 2nd, the Toros put the game away in the 5th as the Toros sent 8 batters to the plate and connected for 6 hits and 4 runs, the big blow coming on a Frazier 2-RBI single and a J. Martinez RBI baseknock to end the contest via the run rule.

In the circle, J. Martinez fanned three batters against just one walk, while facing two batters over the minimum in a 5-inning contest.

CSUDH completes play at the "Best of the West Tournament" tomorrow as the Toros face UC San Diego at 10 am, and Chico State at 2:30 pm.
