Toros Post 3-0 Shutout Over CS San Bernardino on Senior Day

Yvonne Vasquez leads charge with two scores in win

Box Score
Carson, CA -- Junior forward Yvonne Vasquez scored twice as the Toros enjoyed a 20-2 shot advantage in taking a 3-0 win over Cal State San Bernardino in the regular season finale, also marking the final regular season home game for nine Toro seniors.

The visiting Coyotes, now 8-7-3, 4-7-1 CCAA, enjoyed an offensive advantage at the game's outset, keeping the ball in the Toro half for most of the first period.  That all changed at the 20:01 mark when Vasquez won a 50/50 ball against CSUSB keeper Leslie Rhodes, and drilled the empty netter for a 1-0 lead.

After Corrie Hirokawa had a 1v1 against Rhodes that the Coyote keeper won just under 10 minutes later, the Toros poured on their offense the rest of the game, again connecting for paydirt early in the second half as Kristen Boskovichtook a Hirokawa feed and headed her blast past Rhodes for a 2-0 advantage.

Vasquez closed the scoring with just under five minutes remaining in the contest as Boskovich sent a cross in the Coyote box, where Vasquez blasted her shot far post for the game's final score.

After tallying an 8-2 shot cushion in the first half, CSUDH enjoyed a 12-0 advantage after the break, also tallying a 3-1 edge in corner kicks in the second half.  Rhodes made three saves in the loss while her counterpart, Alyssa Congdon, was credited with one in the win.

CSUDH, now 13-3-4, 8-3-3 CCAA, bade farewell to nine seniors in Britani Bresee, Renee Haynes, Hirokawa, Jennifer Jimenez, Amy Livergood, Sandra Lloyd, Krista Rojas, Nikki Vasquez and Fawna Waldo, who were honored in a pre-game ceremony, and will continue their season in the CCAA Championship Tournament on Friday, November 2, as they take on an opponent to be determined in the second women's semifinal, set to begin at 1:30 pm in Toro Stadium.
