Seaside, CA – Junior Corrie Hirokawa capped a furious CSUDH rally that saw the Toros score three second-half goals in taking a thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Cal State Monterey Bay this afternoon, keeping their conference tournament hopes alive.  With the win, CSUDH improves to 10-8-1, 9-5-1 CCAA, while CSUMB falls to 3-14-2, 3-10-2 CCAA.

After entering intermission down 2-0, despite out-shooting the hosts 21-4 in the first frame, the Toros came out on fire in the second half as senior forward Rachele McDonald took a feed from Amanda Zagala and found the back of the net at 54:06, cutting the Otters' lead in half.  Just over three minutes later, fellow senior Candace Hearn knotted the game at 2-2 with a header past sprawling CSUMB keeper Erika Ulfelder, setting up a furious 30 minutes of soccer remaining in regulation.

Neither team would budge until CSUDH completed its comeback in the 77th minute, as Hirokawa took a rebounded shot off the foot of Kristen Boskovich, and beat Ulfelder for the game-winner at 76:38.

Otter keeper Ulfelder made 10 saves on the day while CSUDH's Ashley de Alejandro finished with three.  CSUDH enjoyed a 6-2 corner kick advantage, and out-shot the Otters 31-8, including 8 attempts each by McDonald and Boskovich.

With today's win, CSUDH still is in contention for the fourth and final berth in next week's 2006 CCAA Soccer Tournament, need both a win at San Francisco State and a Humboldt State loss on Sunday to secure the 4th seed.

The Toros and Gators square off at 3:00 pm in San Francisco, California.
