Seaside, CA – Five different Toros scored a goal as CSUDH disposed of Cal State Monterey Bay, 5-1, in CCAA Soccer. With the win, CSUDH improves to 12-6-1, 8-6-1, while CSUMB falls to 1-15-2, 0-14-1.
Andrew Marinez got the Toros off early, taking a rebound at 20:44 and sending it past Otter goalie Matt Lege for a quick 1-0 lead.
Jesse Graham gave the Toros a 2-nil lead just over 10 minutes later as his 18-yard free kick eluded Lege, after which
Carmelo Terranova made the score 3-0 with five minutes left in the half after he controlled a throw-in and beat Lege far post. Less than one minute later,
Jose Serpas gathered another Toro charge in front of the CSUMB net, and found paydirt at 41:47, giving the Toros a 4-0 lead entering the break.
Both sides remained scoreless in the second half until
LJ Reinhardt converted on a penalty kick with just under 17 minutes left in the game, after which CSUMB's Kyle Satow answered with a CSUMB PK at 81:56 to give the Otters their lone score of the afternoon.
Both CSUDH keeper Derby Carillo and CSUMB keeper Lege finished with three saves on the day, while the Toros out-shot the Otters 21-11, including a decisive 13-3 edge in the offensive first half.
The Toros conclude the regular season tomorrow at San Francisco State, with first kick scheduled for 12:30 pm.
