Box Score

Carson, CA -- Senior forward Rachele McDonald (Ventura, CA/Buena HS) notched her second hat trick of the season as CSUDH handed visiting Cal State Bakersfield a 6-0 loss in the two teams' final match-up before CSUB transitions into a full Division I schedule next season.

With the win, the Toros improve to 9-7-1, 8-4-1 CCAA, while the 'Runners fall to 6-7-4, 3-7-3 CCAA.

Junior Corrie Hirokawa (Torrance, CA/North Torrance HS) began the scoring deluge at 18:35, turning a loose ball scramble into her 6th goal of the season, beating 'Runner keeper Kayleigh Peaker near side.

McDonald then took matters into her own feet as a Hirokawa-Jackie Chavez (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA/Peninsula HS) connection found a streaking McDonald down the left side, who then redirected her shot past the diving Peaker far side at 23:34. McDonald again found paydirt minutes later as Amy Livergood (Torrance, CA/North Torrance HS) delivered her pass over the top of the defense, after which the force of McDonald's shot rolled over the attempted save and into the goal at 31:03.

Chavez made the score 4-0 two minutes later, seizing a deflected cross and blasting her rocket far side at 33:39 to close the first half scoring.

The visitors had a chance to cut into the lead in the 48th minute, but an offsides call nullified the score.

McDonald took advantage of CSUB's miscue at the 64:14 mark as she found herself alone with the keeper, and notched her third goal of the game with a blast from 10 yards out.

Hirokawa finished the scoring 8 minutes later as a feed from McDonald and Natalie Moreno (Lakewood, CA/Wilson HS) found the streaking Hirokawa alone on the far side, with the junior forward beating Peaker from just inside the 18-yard line for her second score on the afternoon.

Ironically, the Toros managed just two shots in the second half, both of which found the back of the net. CSUDH dominated the corners by a 7-1 count, with CSUDH keepers Ashley De Alejandro (Lakewood, CA/LBCC) and Rachel Rood (West Hills, CA/Pierce College) combining for 2 saves in the shutout win.

The Toros, currently with the 4th-highest point total in the CCAA, play their final regular season home game on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. against cross-town rival Cal State L.A., after honoring four seniors playing in their last home game at Toro Stadium in a pre-game ceremony.
