No. 14-Ranked Coyotes Sweep Toros in CCAA Match, 3-0

Carson, CA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills was swept by the visiting Coyotes Friday night in the Torodome, 30-27, 30-11, 30-24. With the loss the Toros fall to 6-19, 2-15 CCAA and San Bernardino improves to 19-6, 13-4 CCAA.

The visitors jumped out to a 10-3 lead in game one behind five kills by Lisa Dogonyaro. The Toros would knot the game at 13-13 on a Kayleigh Spratt (Rohnert Park, CA/Rancho Cotate HS) service ace, one of two aces the Toros would serve in the frame. CSUSB would regain control of the game, however, by scoring seven of the next eight points to take a 20-14 lead. CSUDH would cut the deficit to 25-23 on a Maria Serrano (Lakewood, CA/Cerritos CC) kill, but CSUSB would outscore CSUDH 5-4 over the next nine points to take game one, 30-27.

CSUSB would steam to a commanding 26-9 lead in game two, bolstered by a team hitting percentage of .516 compared to the Toros' -.194 hitting percentage and three kills. CSUDH would get no closer than 26-10 as the Coyotes would take four of the next five points and game two, 30-11.

Game three would begin with three straight kills by Shannon Humphrey, helping the Coyotes build an early 7-2 lead. The Toros would answer with a 9-4 run to tie the game at 11-11. The two teams would remain close over the next few points, tying at 12, 14, and 15. CSUSB would be begin to pull away behind as multiple hitting errors plagued the Toros. CSUDH narrowed the gap to with three at 20-23 on a kill by Denise Herrera ( South El Monte, CA/ELAC), however the Coyotes would use three block assists by Sara Rice to stop the Toros offense to win game three 30-24

The Toros were led by Courtney Spainhour (Redondo Beach, CA/El Camino CC) with 10 kills and 9 digs, and Sylvia Bonilla (Los Angeles, CA/Fremont HS) with 10 digs.

The Toros conclude the 2005 campaign tomorrow night as they host No. 18 UC San Diego. CSUDH also will honor its lone senior on the 2005 volleyball team in a pre-match ceremony.13)
