ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Rosie Manton set a career-high with 37 digs and Lindsay Webb supplied 16 kills to pace Sonoma State in a 3-1 (30-23, 30-24, 33-35, 30-24) win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday afternoon at Seawolf Gym.
The Seawolves improve to 10-14, 4-11 CCAA with the win in their final home game of the 2005 season. The Toros drop to 6-17, 2-13 CCAA.
After nearly identical victories in the first two games, the Seawolves were challenged in game three. Despite several match point opportunities, the Seawolves could not shut the door on a feisty Toro squad. CSUDH's Courtney Spainhour got the win for the Toros with a pair of kills to end an exhausting third game. However, the Toro momentum was cut short in the fourth game as Sonoma State pulled away for a comfortable 30-24 win.
Sonoma State outhit the Toros .271 to .168 in the match and held a commanding 10-3 advantage in blocks. Also leading the Seawolf attack with double digit kills were Mindy Orth (13), Kaylee Aizenstadt (11), and Rachel Sagapolu (11). Megan Moore got the majority of time at setter, finishing with 33 assists on the day. Aizenstadt also led the team with five blocks.
Spainhour led the Toros with 20 kills. Sylvia Bonilla had 23 digs and Kayleigh Spratt was solid at setter with 53 assists.
Saturday also marked the final home game for two seniors, Mindy Orth and Brook Terhune. Orth finished with 13 kills and a sparkling .440 hitting percentage. Terhune had six kills.
Sonoma State will finish off the '05 season with three road games, beginning next Friday at Chico State
