LA JOLLA, Calif. - Tara Senff scored two goals, one at the 85:50 mark, to propel Cal State Dominguez Hills to a thrilling 2-1 win over UC San Diego on Saturday night at Triton Soccer Field.
With the loss the Tritons fall to 13-3-0 overall and 9-3-0 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play while the Toros improve to 12-4-2 overall and 7-3-2 in league action.
CSUDH got on the board first as Tara Senff netted her sixth goal of the year at the 39:11 mark of the first half. She gathered the ball at the top left corner of the penalty area and sent a left footed ball low and to the right that beat UCSD netminder Mia Shirley.
After both teams came out of intermission the Tritons began to put a little pressure on the Toros' defense, eventually paying off at the 66:59 mark as Kelly Cochran put in a rebounded shot to knot the score at one apiece. Cochran got the ball after a Chelsey Campbell shot, from 25 yards out, hit the right post and bounded to Cochran on the left side. She slid the ball in for her eighth tally of the season.
The Toros began to regain the momentum after the UCSD score by making long runs and putting constant pressure on the Triton defense. Senff netted her second goal of the game and seventh of the season at the 85:59 mark of the second half when she sent a left footed shot into the upper right corner from 22 yards out.
CSUDH avenges an earlier season loss to the Tritons at home when UCSD posted a 2-0 victory on September 21. The loss for UCSD snaps its 10 match home winning streak that dates back to the 2004 season.
The Toros are in action again next Wednesday when CSUDH hosts Cal State L.A. The men's match begins at 12:30 p.m., with the women following at 3:00 p.m.
