Derby Carrillo Named Daktronics First-Team All-American

Kevin Gallaugher also tabbed as All-America honorable mention

Carson, CA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills sophomore keeper Derby Carrillo was named a 2007 Daktronics Men's Soccer 1st-team All-American this morning, as announced by the College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), while fellow sophomore defender Kevin Gallaugher was selected as an honorable mention.  Carrillo's selection, the first 1st-team All-America since Victor Guerrero was named an NSCAA 1st-team selection in 2003 and the first All-America nod since Jesse Graham captured NSCAA 2nd-team honors last year, caps a stellar campaign in which the sophomore also was named to both the Daktronics All-Region and All-CCAA 1st-teams, also picking up two CCAA Player of the Week honors during the regular season.

Carrillo, who was instrumental in CSUDH's overall 18-3-2 record and second-consecutive CCAA Championship, currently sits 2nd in the nation in goals against average at 0.525, and 4th with a save percentage of 86.7%.  The La Mirada native also led the CCAA Conference in those two categories while finishing second in shutouts and 6th in saves.  Additionally, Carrillo established the CSUDH in GAA, moved into 2nd in shutouts, and tied for 9th in wins in a single season, while also establishing the lowest Toro GAA, placing 7th in shutouts and tying for 9th in wins for a career.

Gallaugher, who earned Daktronics 1st-team All-Region and All-CCAA 1st-team honors as well as the CCAA Newcomer of the Year Award earlier this month, adds an Honorable Mention All-America selection to his hardware in just his first year in Cardinal & Gold.  The Walnut native made his impact felt immediately as the only defender to start all 23 of CSUDH's games.  Gallaugher emerged as the backline's anchor where he helped the Toros blank 12 opponents and hold eight others to just a single goal, also helping lead the Toros to a team GAA of 0.63 while connecting for one goal on the year, a game-winner against CS San Marcos.

The CCAA placed three players total on the Daktronics All-America teams, including Sonoma State's Andrew Bailey, who notched 3rd-team honors after capturing both the Daktronics and CCAA Player of the Year awards.

Carrillo and Gallaugher, who also were chosen to the NCAA Far West All-Tournament team, will be amongst 16 returners to the 2008 Toros squad, which will look to capture its 3rd-consecutive CCAA Championship after posting back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007.
