Tyler Frierson joined the Toros in June 2025 as the assistant coach for the women’s basketball team. The 2025–26 season marks her first with the program.
Before joining Cal State Dominguez Hills, Frierson spent one season as the director of operations at Cal State Fullerton. She previously served two seasons as an assistant coach with the Cal Poly Pomona women’s basketball team. During her tenure, the Broncos made consecutive appearances in both the CCAA Tournament and the NCAA Division II Tournament, compiling a 38–21 (.644) overall record. Six players earned All-CCAA honors under her guidance, including Kalaya Buggs, who was recognized as a WBCA All-America honorable mention.
In her second season at Cal Poly Pomona, the team posted a 20–10 overall record and went 15–7 in CCAA play, advancing to its 29th NCAA Tournament appearance. Four student-athletes earned All-CCAA honors, with Sydney Nelson being named CCAA Freshman of the Year.
During the 2022–23 campaign, Frierson helped lead the Broncos to an 18–11 overall record and a 14–8 mark in conference play. The team tied for fourth in the CCAA standings and qualified for postseason play, facing nationally ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills in both the conference semifinals and the NCAA Tournament’s first round.
As a student-athlete, Frierson competed for four seasons at Wright State University and one season at the University of Memphis. At Wright State, she earned All-Horizon League third-team honors, was named to the Horizon League All-Tournament Team, and was a two-time Horizon League All-Defensive Team selection. She ranks among the program’s top 10 in games played, field goal percentage, total rebounds and blocked shots. Frierson led the team in rebounding during both the 2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons.
A native of Long Beach, California, Frierson earned her bachelor’s degree in communications from Wright State in 2020 and a master’s degree in sports management from the University of Memphis.
