Cal State Dominguez Hills graduate Ron Eastman (BA 1997) enters his 11th season at the helm of the Men's Golf program.

Coach Eastman returned to CSUDH in 2014 as the 2nd Head golf coach in university history, succeeding legendary coach Dr. John Johnson. After completing his collegiate playing career at CSUDH, Eastman served as volunteer associate head coach for the late Dr. John Johnson during the 1997 season, before pursuing his Masters degree and beginning his coaching career.

“To be able to come back to my alma mater and continue the legacy that Dr. Johnson established over his 45 years is truly an honor,” Eastman said. “My goal is to return the CSUDH golf team to the Academic and Athletic success it achieved during the 1983, ’85, ’89 seasons when the team reached the NCAA Championships and student athletes earned All-America honors.”

Prior to returning to CSUDH, Eastman revived the golf team at St. Paul HS from 1999-2001 while reaching the CIF Championships. Eastman started coaching at Rio Hondo College in 2000 and served until 2009 where his teams won multiple tournaments, and sent Individuals to the State Championships multiple times. In 2010, while coaching the Women’s Golf team at La Serna HS, Eastman coached an individual to the CIF SoCal Championships.

While establishing a new boys golf program at Yeshiva HS, bringing the school its first berth at the CIF SoCal Championships after only one season, at the same time serving as the school Athletic Director.

Since returning in 2014 to CSUDH, Eastman’s teams have fostered a culture of Academic and Athletic success. Four Men’s golf team members have won the Dr. Hal Charnofsky Award for academic achievement and the Mike Sharp award for inspirational team leadership. Under Eastman’s tenure three CSUDH golfers have won the prestigious Division II Academic All-American award. In 2023 a DH golfer earned the first ever CCAA Elite 13 Award for Academics.

CSUDH Golf has won the prestigious PGA Works Championship 5 times- 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2022. Since 2014 DH also has had two individual NCAA Regional competitors, five individual Tournament Champions, and set numerous historical team and individual scoring records under Eastman’s guidance.

Eastman can also be found on the golf course competing. A club champion at his home course, Eastman has participated in many PGA, USGA, SCGA events and is a continuing supporter of the history and development of golf in the communities CSUDH serves. Eastman has worked with many PGA professionals in his career, including lessons with PGA HOF Player/Teacher and Champion Paul Runyan.
