Gerardo Hidalgo enters his first season as an assistant coach for Cal State Dominguez Hills Women's Soccer in 2026, joining the Toros after spending four seasons with UC Riverside Women's Soccer.
Hidalgo first served as an assistant coach at UCR during the 2020–2021 season before returning in 2023. He was named the program’s interim head coach for the 2024 season before transitioning into the role of assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the 2025–2026 season. Internationally, Hidalgo has served as an assistant coach for the Puerto Rico Women’s Senior National Team.
Prior to UCR, Hidalgo served as Head Coach at San Diego Christian College from 2021 to 2023. His collegiate coaching resume also includes assistant coaching stints with Hope International men’s and women’s soccer, Fullerton College women’s soccer—where he helped lead the program to back-to-back CCCAA playoff appearances following a 12-year drought—and Minot State University.
In youth and club soccer, Hidalgo has coached for several premier Southern California organizations, including Slammers FC, Strikers FC, and MAGIA Futbol Youth Club (where he served as Director of Futbol). He currently works on the Girls Academy side for Fullerton-based Rangers FC and previously served as Director of Coaches for Minot Magic.
As a player, Hidalgo competed at the semi-professional and professional levels for four seasons, spending two years with the LA Blues (USL) and two with the Southern California Seahorses (USL-PDL). Collegiately, he played two seasons on the back line at Santa Ana College before transferring to Hope International. Named team captain as a junior in 2014, he led the Royals to their first-ever Golden State Athletic Conference regular-season title and a national ranking as high as No. 21.
