Rick Arce

  • Title
    Assistant Coach
A longtime veteran in the sport of volleyball, Rick Arce returns for his 13th year as an assistant coach for the Cal State Dominguez Hills program. Arce has well over 21 years of coaching experience in the Southern California area following two years at Long Beach State and a 6-year professional career on the beach.

In his time with the Toros program, Arce has coached 11 All-California Collegiate Athletic Association selections and has helped the program reach the conference tournament for the first time in 2017. Arce coached the program to five 10-win seasons, including 14 victories in 2017 and 2019.

Arce, who coached his younger sister and former beach professional Lisa Arce Zimmerman, began his coaching career on the sand, enjoying a decade-long stint that included coaching his sister and Holly McPeak at the both the 1997 and 2001 Goodwill Games.  During his tenure, Arce also took up coaching duties as the JV coach at powerhouse Mira Costa from 1998-2005, where his teams claimed five Redondo JV titles.

He has been with the Southern California Volleyball Club (SCVC) since 2002 as both head and assistant coach in arguably the most competitive organizations in the nation.

Arce has had success coaching at the club level. He coached a Boys Junior Olympics team to a bronze (2014), silver (2015) and gold (2016) medal.

With the SCVC, he helped his team claim the Junior Olympics bronze medal as an assistant coach to USC women's volleyball head coach Mick Haley during 2006-07, and a fifth-place national finish at the JOs with USC men's volleyball head coach Bill Ferguson two years earlier.

Prior to the SCVC, he was named Pioneer League "Coach of the Year" as the El Segundo HS varsity head coach, guiding ESHS to a CIF semi-finalist appearance.

On the court, Arce was a standout at Long Beach State, claiming 1st-team All-Tourney honors as an outside hitter, opposite and defensive specialist.  He followed his collegiate stint by earning the top ranking with teammate Chris Hannemann at the EVA pro beach tour, also pairing with Eric Fonoimoana, Ali Tazarouni and Tim Walmer among others during his professional career, where he was a 3-time silver medalist on the Asian 4-man tour.

Arce is the proud uncle of two nieces, Ella and Abby.
