The longest serving head coach of Cal State Dominguez Hills' women's volleyball program, Southern California native Jennifer Adeva returns for her 13th season leading the Toros.
Since taking the reins of the program, Adeva was tabbed the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Coach of the Year in her first season and has coached 10 All-CCAA teams.Â
The 2019 season went down as one of the best in the history of program. The Toros started the season 7-0 en route to their second 14-win season in three years. Senior Taylor Benitez-Fanslow and sophomore Rylee Brown received All-CCAA honors for leading the Toros to this great feat. In 2017, the first 14-win season since 2004, also saw the Toros earn 10 CCAA wins for the second time in program history. Claire Autry received her second straight All-CCAA recognition that year.
Adeva coached two student-athletes to career records. Dana Brown (2012-15) broke the program's all-time assists record while Cathryn Lopez (2015-18) shattered the digs mark, having broken the record her junior year. She also set the program's single-season record for digs her freshman year.
Earning the Coach of the Year nod in 2012, Adeva led that squad to 12 wins overall and 10 victories in the CCAA, with two players also earning 2nd-team All-CCAA honors.
Prior to CSUDH, Adeva spent four seasons as the top assistant for the Wake Forest volleyball program, located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, just missing out on an NCAA bid in 2010 after finishing tied for fifth in the ACC with a 19-12 record.
Adeva's responsibilities included training of the outside and right side hitters, coordinating the defensive systems, recruiting and video coordinator, while serving as the community service liaison and the assistant camp director for Black and Gold Volleyball Camps.
Prior to her stint at Wake Forest, Adeva spent the 2006 season coaching at alma mater Cal State Fullerton, helping the Titans to a 17-12 overall record and a 6-8 mark in the Big West Conference.
Before her year at CSUF, Adeva spent six seasons back east as a coach, with one season at Nicholls State (2000-01), three seasons at Tennessee State (2001-04) and two seasons at Charlotte (2004-05).
Adeva began her collegiate coaching career in 1998 as an assistant coach at Santa Ana College before being named head coach a year later. The following season, Adeva headed southeast to Nicholls State where she was an assistant coach of the Colonels in 2000. During both the 1999 and 2000 seasons, Adeva earned a California Beach Volleyball Association AAA Rating.
She then spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Tennessee State from 2001-04, finishing up as the interim head coach in 2004. Adeva joined Lisa Marston's staff at Charlotte in 2004 and coached the 49ers for two seasons before heading back to Fullerton in 2006.
Adeva had an up-and-down playing career as she suffered two ACL injuries before being granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA. Her career started at the College of the Canyons (1991-93) where she was a two-time 1st-team All-Western Conference performer, before transferring to Cal State Fullerton (1994-96) where she earned Academic All-Big West Conference honors and was named team captain in 1996, also earning NSCA All-America honors as a senior.
Prior to her collegiate career, Adeva prepped at Canyon High School in Canyon Country, earning All-Golden League and All-Santa Clarita Valley honors for the Cowboys.
Adeva has extensive experience coaching at the club level, including the Carolina Juniors "Slam" team, an 18-year-old national-level squad out of Charlotte. Adeva's team captured the 18-Gold National Division Championship in the 2006 USA Volleyball Junior Olympics.
In 2005, her 17-and-under team also posted eight first-place finishes that included the Asics Nationals Championship in Chicago, the East Coast Championships at Penn State and the Asics Big South Qualifier in Atlanta. The team finished ninth in the 17-National Division in the 2005 USA Volleyball Junior Olympics.
Adeva also has coached the Pacific Volleyball Club in Woodland Hills (1993-94), the Impact Volleyball Club in Orange (1995-98) and the Santa Monica Beach Club in Santa Monica (1998-99).
A 1997 graduate of Cal State Fullerton, Adeva earned her Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, and her Master's in Education from Azusa Pacific in 1999.
