Cal State Dominguez Hills alumna Jennifer Michelsen (formerly Womack) was named an assistant coach with the Toro women's soccer program in June of 2018.
Michelsen was a three-year team captain and player for CSUDH (1991-93), leading her team to the 1991 national championship title and was subsequently placed on the NCAA All-Tournament Team. In total, she was a three-time All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) First Team honoree and was placed on the 1992 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-West Region Second Team. A player with great vision and a keen sense for the assist, Michelsen is tied for second in single-season assists (12, 1993) and is second in the Toro record books for career assists (32), a feat that she accomplished in three years. Michelsen won the Dr. Richard Butwell award, an accolade that is presented yearly to the CSUDH student-athlete that best displays a combination of excellence in the classroom, in competition and in the community, as a senior and graduated from CSUDH in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and biology.
After her collegiate eligibility was exhausted, Michselen continued to play competitively for the South Bay Blues (1994-2000) and Orange County SC (2000-15) before a knee injury ended her career on the pitch. During the same time, she was the co-head coach of the girl's soccer team at Ocean View High School in Huntington Beach from 1995-98 and AYSO All-Stars from 2009-13.
Michelsen has two daughters, Malia and Alissa. She enjoys long-distance running to scratch her competitive and fitness itch, and has completed four marathons.
