Billy Staengel completed his first season as an assistant coach with the women's soccer program in 2019. 

Staengel has an extensive coaching background and most recently served as an assistant for 10 years for the men's and women's programs at Soka from 2007-17. He was also an assistant coach for men's & women's track and field program there from 2007-10.

Reuniting with head coach Marine Cano in 2019, Staengel, helped coach the Toros to a CCAA Championship appearance for the first time in 10 years.
 

In his younger years, Staengel was a dual-sport athlete in soccer and track & field at El Camino College (Hall of Fame 2003) and San Jose State from 1974-1978. He was the head boy's soccer coach at nearby Bishop Montgomery High School for three years from 1978-81. 
 

Staengel graduated with a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology from San Jose State and has a board certification in electrophysiology in 2012.
