Krystle Evans

  • Title
    Assistant Coach

Krystle Evans begins her first season as assistant coach for the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball program. The Los Angeles native Evans comes joins John Bonner's staff after working a similar capacity at UC Irvine.

Prior to her time at UC Irvine, Evans served as an assistant at View Park Prep, where she won three CIF titles and LA Southwest Community College. She was also the head coach at Animo South Los Angeles High School in her final year at LA Southwest. Before her collegiate coaching career, Evans served as the youth director for the Cal Sparks, a youth basketball club centered in Long Beach.

As a Crenshaw High School (Los Angeles, CA) standout student-athlete, Evans earned both first-team all-league and all-city on four occasions along with an All-State honor as a senior. She accepted a scholarship to UCLA, but a career-ending injury led Evans to a career in counseling high school students for the Vice Provost for Pre-College Scholars.

In 2006, Evans was one of 96 African Americans admitted in the freshman class of UCLA. She participated in numerous rallies demanding that the admissions board revise the way they review applications. As a result, UCLA now has a new reviewing process that incorporates a 'holistic approach,' to the way applications are reviewed. Since being admitted into UCLA, Evans has been a Chancellors’ Blue and Gold Scholar, a Research Rookie, a McNair Scholar, a Vice Provost for Pre-College Scholars (VIPS) Mentor, and published four times.

Evans' distinguished service has awarded her the California’s 30 Under 30 Award, the Wasserman Research Scholar Award, Marguerite LaMotte’s Rosa Parks Leadership Award, the LAUSD Trailblazer Award, and a host of other recognitions.

A Los Angeles native, Evans holds a received her Bachelor's degree in Political Science with a United States Government Concentration and Education minor from UCLA; and a Master of Arts Degree in Kinesiology from Fresno Pacific University. Evans is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Sports Leadership at Concordia University, Chicago. Evans is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
