Raven Stewart

  • Title
    Honorary Student-Athlete
Cal State Dominguez Hills softball head coach Kim Aggabao announced the signing of 11-year-old Raven Stewart to a National Letter of Intent on September 19, 2017.

Stewart was paired with the CSUDH softball team through Team IMPACT, a non-profit organization that helps "improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team."

A Gardena native, Stewart was two years old when diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF), a condition that causes thick build-up of mucus in the lungs, pancreas and other organs, which can cause the clogging of airways.  Raven undergoes treatment four times a day to build and maintain her health, treatment that includes taking several medications and wearing a "shake vest" that loosens mucus buildup in her chest.

While also visiting the hospital annually for routine checkups and testing, Raven continues to motivate herself and overcome the challenges she faces daily.

After posing for photos with her new teammates, family, and Team IMPACT's representatives, Aggabao introduced Raven and watched as she then inked her National Letter of Intent.  Aggabao next presented Raven with a brand new glove, CSUDH softball visor and framed DH felt before the newest and youngest member of the Toros took her official team head shot and then attended practice and participated in drills with her teammates.

ABOUT TEAM IMPACT
Team IMPACT is a 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team.  Team IMPACT children are drafted on to college athletic teams, local to where they live and, in effect, become official members of the team from Draft Day through to Graduation. At Team IMPACT, they envision a future where the lives of children facing the hardships associated with adverse issues and events will have access to collegiate team-based support in order to significantly enhance their quality of life in a number of ways, including socially, psychologically, physically and academically.

Team IMPACT also strives to provide collegiate teams with increased levels of awareness, sympathy and support for the medial and disease communities. Established in 2011, Team IMPACT has already matched over 950 children with collegiate teams at over 450 institutions in 45 states, improving the quality of life of hundreds of courageous children and touching the lives of over 25,000 student athletes.
