To Jared Maier, Cal State Dominguez Hills softball is his sibling.
The son of the Toros' winningest head coach, Jim Maier, Jared has been part of the softball program since his father took the reins in 2001. As an assistant coach, Jared returns for his sixth season, guiding runners from the third base box along with coordinating the offense and setting the defense.
Maier played a key role to the Toros' run to the program's first NCAA West Region title and to the NCAA Championship Series. Within the region, the Toros finished fourth in batting average, first in hits and doubles, fifth in home runs, sixth in on-base percentage. The Toros also set program single-season records in hits and doubles. He also coached Raquel Jaime to the program's individual single-season hits record while watching her win All-CCAA, All-West Region and ultimately the NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Player award.
Before he got into coaching, Maier played center field for St. Paul High School's baseball program in Santa Fe Springs. In his senior year, he was named the team's defensive player of the year along with being named second-team all-league.
Maier is currently enrolled at Fullerton College studying Kinesiology.
Jared is the middle son of Jim and Lori. His older brother Jake was a standout quarterback at UC Davis and is currently signed with Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. His younger brother, Kyle is currently pitching for Mt. SAC's baseball team.
