Lockhart begins his sixth year of college coaching after a stellar Toro career from 2000-01.
Lockhart, who will assist both programs, was named to the 2001 NSCAA NCAA II All-America squad after leading the Toros to the national championship title game. Lockhart led CSUDH with 45 points on 16 goals and 13 assists while tallying six game-winning goals. He was named the 2001 CCAA Player of the Year and also earned a spot on the First Team All-West Region squad.
Lockhart’s name is splattered all over the Toros all-time record book. During his playing days, he broke a 12-year mark with 28 career assists that since has been surpassed by former All-American Victor Guerrero, and currently holds the 2nd and 4th spots for single season assists with 15 (‘00) and 13 (‘01). He ranks 3rd with 45 points in a season, is 8th with 74 career points and shares the 8th spot with 23 career goals. In 2000, Lockhart registered the assist on the game-winning goal in the Toros’ thrilling 2-1 four-overtime win against Barry University in the national championship game.
Prior to CSUDH, Lockhart played two years at Sacramento State where he led the Hornets in scoring his freshman season. As a prep, Lockhart was the Desert Valley League MVP twice at Palm Springs HS, registering 104 career goals over a four-year span. He also was named to the First Team All-CIF squad in 1996.
In 2002, he played professionally in Malaysia, where he led the league in goals and assists as his DPMMFC team, owned by the Sultan of Brunei, won the league championship. "Sean is a great addition," says Flanagan. "He’s very well rounded and has a great future in coaching."
Lockhart, who resides in Torrance and married former Toro soccer player Natalie Franklin on June 10, also is the girls’ head coach at Palos Verdes High School and serves as the longest standing coach for the PV Soccer Club (Boys U-9, Boys U-10 and Girls U-17).
