Cameron Thurman

Cameron Thurman and Cal State Dominguez Hills cheerleading are synonymous.

From cheering to coaching, Thurman has been associated with the Toros cheer program for well over 20 years. She enters her 17thyear leading the program on a permanent basis. She also served as acting cheerleading coach from 2000-02.

Under Thurman’s leadership, the Toros have four first place titles in Show Cheer from Jamz Cheer and Dance Competition, two second place finishes from Cheer Sport Cheer and Dance Competitions and three bronze medals from United Spirit Association Competition for Show Cheer as well as Game Day categories.

The Toros have also received eight superior ratings during the United Spirit Association Collegiate Camp and four excellent reviews. In addition to those appearances, Thurman and the Toros have participated in the POWERHOUSE Stomp N Shake competition for the first time and placed nationally. 

In addition to competing and performing on the sideline during Toro home events, Thurman and the cheer program have participated in the largest Martin Luther King Jr. parade for nine years and have escorted the grand marshal for three of those years. 

Thurman expanded the cheer program in 2019 with the creation of the HBCU-style majorette call Solid Gold. This division can be seen performing in either Toros home contests or on-campus and community events. A year later, she added a Twirling Thunder as the short-flag team to the cheer family.

In 2008 she became the 1st recipient of President Dr Mildred Garcia Transformational Leadership Award for her outstanding commitment to the Cheerleading Program.  

Thurman cheer for Cal State Dominguez Hills from 1997-99 while completing her Bachelor of Science in Community Health. In 2008, she became the first recipient of the Dr. Mildred Garcia Transformational Leadership Award for her outstanding commitment to the cheerleading program.

After 24 years working as a respiratory therapist, Thurman will be taking on a new and exciting career roll as a Covid-19 contact tracing program manager beginning the summer of 2021.

Thurman and her husband Scott Levester first met on the CSUDH campus and have been happily married for 11 years. She has one daughter, Chania, who is set to graduate high school and attend Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in the fall 2021.
