Tyler Wright

Tyler Wright returns for his tenth season as head coach of the Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball program. He started out as interim head coach going into the 2016 and named to the position permanently that April.

Since taking the helm of the Toros, Wright has coached 12 All-California Collegiate Athletic Association selections and four All-West Region winners. In addition, Wright has coached three players whom were taken by major league ballclubs via MLB Draft. Brady Conlan was taken by the Chicago White Sox in 2016, Brandon Polizzi was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2017 and the White Sox drafted another Toro in Rigo Fernandez in 2018. Both Conlan and Fernandez were taken in the 24th round of their respective drafts.

Year 2020 was becoming a promising season for Wright's ballclub, going 12-10 overall and 11-5 in the CCAA until the COVID-19 pandemic abruptly and disappointingly canceled the remainder of the season. The Toros never lost a CCAA series against four opponents and along the way had won seven straight games for the first time in 10 years. Although the CCAA decided to not name all-conference selections, Pierson Loska, Aaron Greenfield and Dylan Steen were selected to the one-time created CCAA All-Star team.

The 2016 season version of the Toros saw them as contenders for a CCAA Tournament berth going into the final weekend of the regular-season. Wright also coached three All-CCAA representatives, including first-team Conlan.

Wright took the helm of the Toros program after serving as assistant coach in 2015. That season saw the Toros finish 30-24 overall, 22-18 in the CCAA along with producing the conference's Player of the Year in Kamran Young. Young was also named first-team All-American by Daktronics and was selected both NCBWA and ABCA West Region Player of the Year.

In addition to Young in the All-CCAA team, Wright also helped produce five other players.

Before coming to Carson, Wright spent the last six years as associate head coach at then-NAIA Biola University.

As part of the Eagles' staff from 2007-13, Wright helped guide the Eagles to post season play five years, including two NAIA World Series Opening Rounds (2011, 2012). Biola was consistently a top the GSAC (widely regarded as the toughest NAIA conference in the Nation), made five regional appearances, while having a record of 182-133.

Serving as the Eagles' recruiting coordinator, Tyler was instrumental in assembling the staff's last three recruiting classes. Biola’s recruiting classes included three players who went on to be drafted by MLB affiliates, five who moved on to independent professional leagues, 14 first-team All-GSAC selections, four NAIA All-Americans, three GSAC Golden Glove winners, one NAIA Golden Glove winner, and 5 overall MLB draft selections.

Tyler’s primary coaching duties included serving as the team's bench coach, hitting coach, and outfield instructor while assisting with the infielders, base-running and catchers. Tyler assisted with all aspects of running a college baseball program.

Coach Wright was also the primary liaison in maintaining and monitoring the eligibility of student-athletes. This contributed to 13 Academic All-GSAC selections, 13 Academic NAIA All-American selections, one Capital One Academic All-American, along with numerous
players each season that have received academic recognition from Biola University.

Wright and his wife Chelsea have two children, a son Olen and daughter Millie.
