Shane Shumaker

In his first year on the Toros baseball staff, Schumaker brings years of coaching and playing experience with him to CSUDH, with his most recent stint as the Associate Head Coach with the Havasu Heat summer league after serving in an assistant coach capacity at Loyola Marymount University in 2007-08.

Prior to LMU, Schumaker served two seasons as an assistant coach at UNC Greensboro under head coach Mike Gaski.  As an infielder for UNCG from 2000-01, Schumaker was a two-year letter winner, leading the Spartans in 2001 with a .342 batting average, while hitting 10 home runs and driving in 52 runs en route to being named All-Southern Conference as well as an All-Tournament selection.

Schumaker began his coaching career at El Camino Junior College in 2001 and was responsible for hitting and infielding instruction along with recruiting.  At El Camino, he coached for five seasons and in 2004 helped the Warriors to a 30-7 record, the best in school history.

A two-time alumnus of CSUDH, Schumaker has his bachelor’s in Applied Studies (2005) and a master’s in Kinesiology (2006). He resides in Redondo Beach with wife Megan, with their two dogs, Nemo and Colby.
