Sam Thorne returns for his eighth season as assistant coach for the Toros. His coaching responsibilities are working with the catchers, guiding base runners from third base, recruiting and some administrative duties.
Prior to joining the Toros for the 2019 season, Thorne was a graduate assistant coach at Southwestern College from 2017-2018. In addition to being a first base coach, Thorne worked with the outfielders among other duties similar to CSUDH.
Thorne also coached in the high school ranks along working youth baseball camps and organizations from ages 5-13.
Thorne played college ball for then-NAIA Biola, which he captained the program his senior year. He was selected first-team All-Golden State Athletic Conference twice and a National Baseball Congress All-American in the summer of 2016. He would graduate from Biola with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with a minor in Biblical Studies in 2017 and received a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction from Southwestern College in 2019.
