Former Cal State Dominguez Hills two-way player Chris Vopinek returns for his seventh season as assistant coach for the program, serving as the team's pitching coach.

Within the three years as assistant coach, Vopinek has coached five All-California Collegiate Athletic Association selections, including four in 2019, and one all-region.

The 2020 season was becoming a promising one for the Toros, going 12-10 overall and 11-5 in the CCAA until the COVID-19 pandemic abruptly and disappointedly canceled the remainder of the season. The Toros never lost a CCAA series against four opponents and along the way had won seven straight games for the first time in 10 years. The Toros hurlers owned the fourth-best ERA and strikeouts in the CCAA. For his effort, right-hander Dylan Steen was selected to the one-time CCAA All-Star team for finishing fifth in the conference in ERA, sixth in wins and 10th in strikeouts.

Vopinek transferred to Dominguez Hills from El Camino College by the start of the 2012 season. At the plate he batted .275 with 10 doubles and 22 RBI while on the mound he made nine appearances out of the bullpen, throwing as many innings and allowing only three earned runs.
