COSTA MESA -- No. 20 Cal State Dominguez Hills allowed an early goal to host Vanguard University to kick off the 2026 season for both squads, but roared back with four unanswered goals to take a convincing 4-1 win over the Lions at VU Soccer Field.

Keegan O'Brien collected three saves to pick up the win.
The Lions started strong in front of their home crowd, collecting three shots in the first 13 minutes before Robert Ronco found the back of the net at the 13:31 mark.
Three substitutions followed for the Toros over the next 10 minutes, and opened up the flood gates as
Andrew Arreola connected for the equalizer at the 25:23 mark after a Toro corner, with
Justin Cuevas following another corner with a score just minutes before the first half expired to give CSUDHÂ the lead for good.
The Toros continued to press after the break with
Amaury Sanders finding the back of the net less than 10 minutes into the second half, before
Cland Iwasaki put home the match's final score at 80:59 from the penultimate Toro corner of the afternoon.
Vanguard held a 15-11 advantage in shots and 5-4 edge in corners, with the teams combining for 24 fouls, seven yellow cards and one red.
CSUDH opens its home schedule on Sunday, August 30, hosting St. Edward's to continue its non-conference ledger.
