Toros Clinch Berth in CCAA Tournament on Senior Day With Sweep of Stan State

CARSON -- The suddenly streaking Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team honored five seniors in Torie Au, Ava Camarena, Gaby Gandara, Dyoni Garcia, and Ashley Ogata prior to playing their final regular season home games at Toro Diamond, and proceeded to guarantee at least two more games as the Toros clinched a berth in the upcoming CCAA Tournament by sweeping visiting Stanislaus State by 5-2 and 3-2 scores.

The 2026 league tourney will mark the fifth-consecutive year the Toros have qualified for the championships.  CSUDH now has now swept its last two series and, with its eighth- and ninth-straight wins after today's sweep, enter the CCAA tournament as the hottest team in the league.

Game one of today's doubleheader saw the visitors score their first run of the weekend in the second inning after being held scoreless over the first 15.0 innings of play.  The Toros quickly erased that lead in the bottom half of the frame as Garcia led off the frame by hammering a 1-1 offering over the left field fence to knot the score.  After a walk and single prompted a Warrior pitching change, a Stan State error one batter later loaded the bases, with Alyssa Martinez scoring on Ashley Goodale's sacrifice fly.  Marisa Dominguez then reaached on antoher Warrior error to bring home Gandara for a 3-1 lead, after which Au brought home Bishop with the final run of the frame.

Stan State replied with a single run in the third, but the Toros again got the final say courtesy of Au in the sixth for the 5-2 final.

Goodale and Au each roped three hits with Au driving in two, while Ashley Ogata picked up her 15th win of the year in the complete-game effort, scattering six hits.

The nightcap saw the Toros continue their offensive surge with a pair of runs in the third inning, courtesy of a Mireya Rico RBI double and Andrea Tellez RBI single to right.

After the Warriors tied the game in the fourth inning, CSUDH retook the lead in the bottom half of the frame, bolstered by a Stan State error put a Gandara on first base.  After a sacrifice bunt and single moved Gandara to third base, a Dominguez ground out brought the speedster home with what would prove to be the game winner.

Bishop, Goodale and Rico each roped two hits with Audrey Gallegos improving to 9-9 with the complete game win.

The Toros currently sit fourth in the CCAA standings at 17-15, percentage points behind Cal Poly Humboldt (14-12), which travels to Stanislaus State next weekend to conclude the regular season.  If the Lumberjacks win at least two games, the Toros will stay the No. 4 seed and, with the newly modified five-team tournament, will take on the to-be-determined No. 5 seed in a single elimination game on Wednesday, May 6, to kick off the postseason.

The remaining teams will then be reseeded for a double-elimination tournament (Thursday-Saturday). The tournament champion will receive the CCAA's automatic berth for the NCAA tournament.
