Edgar's Double-Double Gives Toros 62-60 Win at SFSU, and Series Sweep of Gators

SAN FRANCISCO -- Cal State Dominguez Hills senior Kylee Edgar poured in 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field and pulled down 10 rebounds as the Toros took an exhilarating 62-60 win over host San Francisco State for their third-straight win, sweeping the season series in the process.

The Toro offense shot 42.9% from the floor while its resurgent defense held the hosts to just 33.3% shooting, allowing an average of just 55.3 points over its last three games, all victories.

Despite tying in rebounds and enjoy a slim 3 to 1 edge in blocks, the athletic and assertive Toros posted a +16 points in the paint and a 12-4 edge in fastbreak points.

Trailing 32-27 after two periods, the Toros trimmed their lead to just two points after outscoring the Gators 14-11, earning three points off a perfect 4-of-4 from the foul line compared to just one make for SFSU.

In the 4th quarter, CSUDH found its rhythm, sinking 53.5% of its shots and all four free throw attempts.

Tied at 43-43 with 9:17 left in regulation, the Toros went on a 9-2 run courtesy of a Zanna Hurst 3-pointer, layups by Anela Thomas and Camryn Washington, followed by two Washington free throw makes for a 52-45 lead four minutes later.

Undaunted, the Gators caught the Toros at 58 with 65 seconds left on the clock, with the two teams exchanging buckets to head into the final 25 seconds tied at 60-all, with the Toros having possession.

After missing a shot, Thomas secured an offensive board and was fouled at the 18 second mark, and proceeded to drain both of her free throws.

That's when the Toro defense locked in even more, causing three-consecutive misses to secure the hard-fought decision.

Thomas finished with 12 points with Bryanne Lopez-Wood chipping in 10, including 4-for-5 from the charity stripe.

Edgar's 10 boards led all players, adding two assists and two steals.

Climbing into 7th place in the CCAA standings, CSUDH looks to make it four-straight on Saturday as it travels to Cal State East Bay for a 5:30 pm tip.
