Toros Outslug Yotes in Wild Finale to Clinch CCAA Top Spot

CARSON, Calif,.- Cal State Dominguez Hills closed out its final regular-season road series in dramatic fashion, outlasting Cal State San Bernardino in a 10-inning slugfest for a 23-19 victory on Saturday afternoon at Fiscalini Field. With the win, the Toros clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CCAA Tournament, set to be hosted at Reeder Field in Los Angeles.

The Toros (28-17, 24-12 CCAA) erupted for a season-high 23 runs on 24 hits, with seven players recording multiple hits. Dominguez Hills jumped out to an early lead after Quinn Johnson launched a three-run home run in the first inning. The senior third baseman followed with another two-run blast in the fourth and a two-RBI double in the fifth, finishing the day 4-for-7 with a career-high seven RBI and two homers.

Kaleb Castro matched the fireworks with a 5-for-6 outing, scoring six times and driving in four runs, including a solo home run in the ninth. Emilio Barrera came through with a go-ahead three-RBI double in the 10th and finished with five RBI, while Brett Castillo added a game-tying three-run homer in the ninth.

Despite falling behind after surrendering eight runs in the third and six in the fifth, the Toros never relented. After erasing a six-run deficit in the ninth, they exploded again in the 10th for four more runs to seal the win.

Teige Barrett tossed a scoreless ninth to earn the win on the mound, while Julian Castro shut the door with a clean 10th inning.
