CARSON, Calif. – A three-hit, four-RBI performance from outfielder Trey Winget lifted Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 9-5 win over visiting Chico State in the opener of a key four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association series Friday afternoon at Toro Field.
The Toros (24-14, 20-9 CCAA) pounded out 16 hits and scored in four of the first five innings to take control early. Winget helped open the scoring in the first after stealing third and scoring on an error, then drove in a run with a single in the second before launching a three-run homer in the third to extend the lead to 7-3.
Dominguez Hills never trailed after jumping ahead 4-0 in the first two innings. The Wildcats (21-13, 14-11 CCAA) plated three in the third to close the gap, but starter Darren Roberts (5-0) held them in check over six innings, scattering five hits with four strikeouts.
The Toros added a pair in the fifth on a two-RBI single from Dylan Schumacher, giving him a multi-hit game alongside Nigel Buckley and Emilio Barrera. Kaleb Castro also collected three hits and a walk in a strong performance at the plate.

With the win, the Toros remain near the top of the CCAA standings as the postseason picture sharpens. The series continues Saturday with a doubleheader at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Toro Field.
