SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 1 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team completed its championship mission, defeating No. 2 Cal Poly Pomona 77-54 in the CCAA Tournament Championship on Saturday night at The Sports Center. With the win, the Toros improved to 32-1 overall, securing both the CCAA regular-season and tournament titles for the first time since 2014-15.
The Toros set the tone early with intense defensive pressure, holding the Broncos to just 10 points on 27.3% shooting. Nala Williams got Dominguez Hills on the board with an early layup, while Cristina Jones and Asia Jordan controlled the paint. Devon Lewis added a key fast-break bucket, helping the Toros take a 15-10 lead after the first quarter.
Dominguez Hills caught fire offensively, bouncing back from an uncharacteristic shooting performance in the semifinals. The Toros poured in 26 points in the second quarter, fueled by Williams and Jordan attacking the rim and Joe'l Benoit and Teagan Thurman knocking down shots from deep. The defensive intensity also ramped up, forcing multiple turnovers and holding the Broncos to 15 points in the period. By halftime, the Toros had built a commanding 41-25 lead.
The defensive dominance continued in the third, as Dominguez Hills held Cal Poly Pomona to just 13 points on 33.3% shooting. Jordan and Jones remained a force on the boards, securing offensive rebounds and generating second-chance opportunities. The Toros maintained their lead, outscoring the Broncos 16-13 in the period to take a 57-38 advantage into the fourth.
With the championship within reach, Dominguez Hills closed out the game in dominant fashion. The Toros outscored the Broncos 20-16 in the final frame, sealing the victory with strong free-throw shooting and lockdown defense. Jones, Jordan, and Williams controlled the final minutes, ensuring the Toros would hoist the CCAA Tournament Championship trophy.

With the CCAA Tournament title secured, Cal State Dominguez Hills now awaits its seeding in the NCAA West Regional Tournament, with the bracket set to be announced on Sunday, March 9. The Toros will now set their sights on a deep postseason run.
