CARSON, Calif. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team split its CCAA doubleheader against San Francisco State on Friday at Toro Diamond. After dropping the opener 10-3, the Toros bounced back with a walk-off 9-8 victory in extra innings, capped by a home run from Jay Ross.
Game 1:
The Toros (23-16, 10-10 CCAA) kept pace early, responding to a three-run third inning from San Francisco State (26-12, 13-8 CCAA) with two runs of their own. Ross drove in Alexis Aguado with a double before Torie Au brought in another run on a sacrifice fly.
The Gators added another run in the fourth before putting the game out of reach with a five-run seventh inning. The Toros managed to push across one final run on a groundout in the bottom of the frame, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Ross led the offense with a 3-for-3 performance, scoring two runs and driving in one. Aguado added two hits, including a triple, while Mireya Rico also tallied two hits. Lillianna Garcia (13-2) took the loss after allowing three runs in relief.
Game 2:
Game two saw an explosive start for Cal State Dominguez Hills, as the Toros plated five runs in the first inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Rico. The Gators chipped away and took an 8-7 lead with a four-run fourth inning, but the Toros fought back.
Rico tied the game in the sixth with an RBI double before Ross delivered the game-winning moment in the eighth, launching a solo home run to right center.
Rico finished with three hits and five RBIs, while Ross reached base five times, scoring three runs. Aguado contributed two hits and an RBI, while Ashley Ogata (5-7) earned the win, tossing 7.1 innings while allowing four earned runs.
The Toros return to action on Friday, April 4, as they travel to Cal Poly Humboldt for another CCAA matchup. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
