CARSON, Calif.- The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team swept its doubleheader against Cal State East Bay on Saturday, winning the opener 10-2 before securing a 4-0 shutout in Game 2 at Toro Field.
In the first game, the Toros jumped ahead early, scoring two unearned runs in the first inning. Trey Winget extended the lead in the fourth with a solo home run to right center, while Dylan Schumacher delivered a three-run double in the sixth to break the game open. Quinn Johnson added insurance in the eighth with a two-run homer, and Teige Barrett capped the scoring with an RBI single. Trysten Eddy earned the win on the mound, tossing 7.1 innings while allowing one run on six hits with four strikeouts.
Game 2 was defined by one big swing, as Kaleb Castro launched a grand slam to center field in the third inning, accounting for all four runs in the game. Justin Abercrombie dominated on the mound, throwing 6.2 shutout innings with five strikeouts to remain undefeated at 4-0.
Winget led the Toros offensively across both games, going 4-for-6 with four runs scored, a home run, and an RBI. Castro totaled five RBIs, highlighted by his Game 2 grand slam. Schumacher finished the day with three hits and three RBIs, while Johnson homered and drove in two runs. On the mound, Eddy and Abercrombie combined for 14 innings of work, allowing just two runs while striking out six.
The Toros will look to clinch the series in the finale against Cal State East Bay on Sunday at noon.
