PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The most historic season in Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball history came to a thrilling conclusion at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse, as the Toros battled until the final buzzer in the NCAA Division II National Championship game against Grand Valley State.
After a record-breaking campaign that saw Dominguez Hills claim both the CCAA regular-season and tournament titles, secure a second West Region Championship in three seasons, and earn their first-ever trip to the National Championship game, the Toros showcased their resilience once more.
Despite falling behind early, the Toros surged back in the second half, cutting into the Lakers' lead behind the relentless efforts of WBCA Player of the Year Nala Williams. Williams led the charge, demonstrating why she was honored as the nation's best, delivering clutch plays and leading the offense down the stretch.
The Toros, who ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation this season, refused to back down, applying defensive pressure and executing key baskets to fuel a late comeback attempt. In the closing minutes, Dominguez Hills continued to battle, showcasing the grit and determination that defined their historic season.
With the loss, the Toros close the 2024-25 campaign with yet another milestone – the first national championship appearance in program history. They also become the first team in CCAA history to see both their men's and women's programs capture two regular-season titles, two CCAA Tournament championships, and two West Region crowns within two years.
A season filled with historic achievements, record-breaking performances, and unforgettable moments has set the foundation for the future of Toros basketball.
